Burn ban reinstated in Sarasota County as dry weather conditions continue

Sarasota County, Florida, has reinoted a burn ban due to ongoing drought conditions. The ban, which was initially implemented in 2025, applies to the unincorporated areas of the County and City of Sarasota. The county's ordinance states that burn bans go into effect when the Keetch-Byram Drought Index (KBDI) exceeds 500. Officials have urged residents to create three zones of defensible space around homes and businesses and maintain an evacuation plan.
