V Vaughn Boatner, a 36-year-old San Mateo man, has been sentenced to 35 years in state prison for the murder of ex-girlfriend Monique Aldridge, who found out she was pregnant five days before her ex-boyfriend shot her in the head in a garage while their son, 5, was watching a Minecraft Movie. The shooting occurred in May 2023, when Aldridge had been reported missing by her current boyfriend when she went off to have some time for herself and didn't return to her Hayward home. Boatner had confronted Aldridge at a local park and later drove to Aldridge's residence with his aunt, who remained outside as Boatner killed Aldridge and shot part of her boyfriend's jaw off. He was arrested 11 days after the homicide. The surviving victim testified that he saw Boatner emerge through the partially open garage door and yelled at Aldridge just before she was shot, but managed to reach the boy, who was able to bring him to safety.
