The Motion Picture Editors Guild has praised a bill introduced in Sacramento, AB 2319, aimed at creating a tax incentive program to keep post-production work in California. However, the Guild believes that its labor standards need to be tightened to ensure good jobs. The legislation includes a stand-alone tax credit program for editing, VFX, sound mixing, and more post production work, even if the initial project is made outside California. Unlike many other jurisdictions, post production is not a beneficiary of California's $750 million annual tax credits program if the project is filmed elsewhere. The goal of the bill is to get term-limited Gov. Gavin Newsom to approve it before he leaves office.
