Leqaa Kordia, a Palestinian woman who was detained by immigration authorities for over a year after she was arrested at a protest at Columbia University during Israel's war in 2024, has been released from custody. The Department of Homeland Security alleges she was detained for overstaying her student visa and has been held at the Prairieland Detention Center in Alvarado, Texas. An immigration judge has now ordered Korda's release on bond, marking the third time a judge has released her. Her lawyers claim she was targeted after attending a protest opposing military violence and supporting Palestinian rights. The White House has dismissed these claims, calling them "categorically false".
