A recent scandal in Los Angeles revealed that former Los Angeles Unified School District employee and technology vendor, Gautham Sampath, allegedly transferred $3 million to LAUSD technical project manager Hong Peng, to secure a $22 million contract for his information software. Sampath's company, Innive, has government contracts in California and elsewhere in the country, which means that local and state governments are awarding multimillion-dollar bids to conmen with few legal repercussions. This money could have gone to teachers, counselors, and administrators, and could have been kept by homeowners paying extortion-level property taxes. However, this corruption continues to siphon away taxpayer money without anyone realizing it. The author suggests that technology, which is often inferior to learning on paper, is often ineffective and costly due to its high school English programs.
