Graney: Raiders need a veteran presence to mentor Mendoza

The Oakland Raiders are set to select Fernando Mendoza, the expected No. 1 overall draft pick, with the idea of him playing immediately does not appear to be a leading choice among the team. The team believes that having a veteran quarterback to start the season would be the most favorable of circumstances. Coach Klint Kubiak and General Manager John Spytek also share their views on the future of the quarterback room. The Raiders have a long-term plan to build a program that could potentially be a contender in the AFC West. However, the team's record and success rate would obviously dictate when Mendeza might get the initial shot, but it's important that whoever the veteran might be buys into the overall plan.
