Northern Nevada Public Health (NNPH) is investigating cases of cryptosporidiosis linked to a live animal yoga class in Washoe County. The cases are associated with a class involving live animals. The parasite, sometimes called "Crypto," can spread when small amounts of fecal matter from infected animals are ingested. Symptoms include diarrhea, stomach cramps, nausea and vomiting. Health officials have recommended several steps to reduce the risk of illness when interacting with animals, including washing hands with soap and running water for at least 20 seconds after contact, avoiding eating or drinking in animal areas and not closely holding animals.
