Hollywood stars Bryan Cranston, Jane Fonda, Joaquin Phoenix, and over 1,000 other Hollywood professionals have signed an open letter opposing Paramount Skydance's acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery. The letter argues that the merger would further consolidate an already concentrated media landscape, reducing competition and significantly reducing the number of major U.S. film studios to just four. The signatories also warned that the consolidation would result in fewer opportunities for creators, fewer jobs across the production ecosystem, higher costs, and less choice for audiences worldwide. The open letter was published on a website called Block the Merger. The UK's antitrust watchdog, the Competition and Markets Authority, has announced a preliminary investigation into how the merger could affect British economic competition and British consumers.
