The fragile ceasefire in the Middle East is at risk of collapse due to an escalation in attacks from Iran. FIFA has increased its payouts to teams competing in the 2026 World Cup, bringing the total to $871 million, making it the most lucrative edition on record. The World Cup will also expand to 48 teams, up from 32 in 2022, and four new national teams are set to make their debuts at the event.
