The Baltimore City is investing nearly $22 million to expand low-cost internet access to over 4,000 public housing units through a broadband buildout through local internet service provider Port Networks. The city plans to install fiber internet in every apartment at eight public housing complexes in West and South Baltimore, with residents being able to subscribe for $20 a month. The project will use the city's existing fiber network, which is publicly owned and can be expanded without starting from scratch. Additionally, Baltimore's Emerging Technology Centers (ETC) has announced $200,000 for its newest portfolio company, JuneBrain, marking its first investment in over a year. Gov. Wes Moore is investing $4 million to prepare Maryland workers and employers for an economy increasingly influenced by artificial intelligence and cybersecurity.
