A $70 million modernization project at La Jolla Elementary School in San Diego, two years after the completion of the school's whole-site modernization, a problem with an irrigation isolation valve left half of the field un-watered and discolored. The issue was discovered by San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD), which has since reopened the valve and installed locking hardware on the irrigation and isolation valves to prevent unauthorized shut-offs. The root system of the grass appears viable and SDUSD does not anticipate a need for re-seeding. Additional watering cycles are being scheduled to help the turf recover, and staff will monitor the field for maintenance.
