The 100 Steps in Jersey City, a public outdoor staircase linking the Heights neighborhood atop the Palisades to Hoboken, offers a stair climbing workout and views. The original, cast iron 100 Steps staircase was restored in 2013 and replaced by a steel stairway that replaced it. The current version of the 100 Steps cost nearly $1 million and was funded by the developer of the Cliffs Lofts, a former factory near the bottom of the staircase near the Hoboken border that was turned into an apartment building. The 100 Steps, which opened in the 1890s, are sometimes confused with the "100 Steps" in Passaic, which was rebuilt in 2021 after nearly a century in use.
