Injuries to Reiver Sanmartin and Joel Peguero, both of the San Francisco Giants, have negatively impacted the team's bullpen competition and prevented Sanmartins from participating in the World Baseball Classic. Sanmartanin, who was scheduled to pitch for Team Colombia in the WBC, sustained a right hip flexor injury in Colombia's exhibition against the Pittsburgh Pirates and will be out of the tournament. Peguer also reinjured his left hamstring and sustained a Grade 2 strain, meaning he likely won't be ready for Opening Day. The team has four relievers in camp, including four players who may not be healthy to begin the season. The injuries could make selecting eight relievers for the Opening Day roster more difficult for the Giants.
