General Motors (GM) launched the 6.6L Duramax V8 in 2001, a collaboration between GM and Isuzu, a first-of-a-kind diesel engine design. The current generation of Duramsax has gained more power with each iteration. However, Ford and Cummins have also improved their diesel engines, surpassing the Duramaz diesel's output. The 6.7L Cummins produces more torque than the 66 Durasax. Ford's standard output (HO) diesel engine is even more powerful, with the HO 677 making 500 horsepower and 1,200 lb200-ft of torque compared to its standard-output stablemate. The article also notes that Ford's High Output 6.5 Power Stroke V8 has been the most powerful diesel for consumer heavy-duty pickup trucks since 2023.
