Cold weather hits Pittsburgh area, North Park cherry blossoms face weak bloom

The recent cold nights in the Pittsburgh area have caused a weak bloom for the cherry blossoms in North Park. The Pittsburgh Sakura Project, a volunteer organization that helps maintain the cherry trees in the park, operates year-round to ensure their appearance. However, the cold weather is a factor, along with major pruning done to combat black knot fungus, the trees are using energy to grow leaves, not flowers. The current cold snap in the area indicates it is still too early to plant.
