The UK's top directors, including Saul Metzstein, James Hawes, and Jeremy Lovering, and Andor and Sherlock director Benjamin Caron, have written an open letter challenging streaming platforms. The directors argue that royalties are a crucial source of income for directors and that the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 contribute to a scheme that pays copyright royalties for repeat showings and sales of programs. However, despite this, they have not signed up to any form of royalty or residual scheme for the benefit of U.K. filmmakers. The letter criticizes the slow pace of discussions on an appropriate royalty scheme for UK directors.
