The Highland Park City Council voted unanimously against plans to convert Michael Jordan's former mansion into a museum. John Cooper, who bought the property from Jordan for $9.5 million in 2024, had initially proposed renting out the 37,700-square-foot mansion for short-term stays and offering fractional ownership shares in the estate. His proposal was met with resistance and he has since developed a new idea to convert the property into an attraction that would attract schoolchildren and other visitors from around the country. The museum would have been able to draw between 100,000 and 180,000 visitors each year. However, many neighbors have opposed the idea, arguing that if Highland Park allowed the museum it would require a change to the city's zoning code.
