The US President, President Trump, has announced that the US Navy, along with allies, will begin to block ships entering or leaving the Strait of Hormuz from Iran. This move is seen as a move by President Obama to turn the tables on his opponent, Iran, who thought they had the world's best in oil barrel. The move is part of a larger effort by the US to counterbalance Iran's nuclear ambitions and impose maximum economic pain on Iran. The blockade was pushed by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and former UN Ambassador Mike Waltz after the Chinese and Russians vetoed a UN Security Council resolution to reopen the Hormoz Strait. The administration also sent Vice President JD Vance to lead talks with Iran, where he could assess the Iranians' illusions about the cards they hold. Despite 21 hours of talks with the Iranian delegation, there was no deal to end the war. The US is establishing dominance over what Iran thought was its “Trump” card, without firing a shot.
