Mick Murray Welding, a trailer manufacturer from Mick Murray Weld, Australia, has developed a hybrid road train (HRT) system that pairs powered trailers with conventional diesel or battery electric semi trucks to achieve safer, cleaner, and heavier hauling. The system is designed specifically for mining company, Australian mining firm, MLG, to decarbonize their heavy haul operations and reduce exposure to volatile fuel costs. The HRT could save millions in fuel costs while reducing engine loads on the prime mover, improving vehicle life and reducing downtime even as the trailers save money on fuel. The first HRT is already in operation at an MLG site in Australia, with plans to offer HRT trailers to other heavy haul companies later this year.
