Google's March 2026 Spam Update was largely welcomed by many in the SEO community who were hoping for relief from spammy sites. However, the update unexpectedly ended in less than 24 hours with a collective shrug and a yawn. Despite this, it may signal bigger changes in the company's approach to handling spam. The Google subreddit announcing the spam update only had six responses, four of which were for a link to the official announcement. Many SEOs who have been vocal about spammy GEO tactics and regular old spam were quiet throughout the duration of the spam announcement. The response on Reddit’s Google subreddit was largely a shrug and yawn, with some doubting much of anything will change. The end of the update was met with silence on many of the ongoing discussions across the Internet.
