Akron University of Akron men's basketball has won three consecutive conference tournament titles, becoming the first team to win the MAC Tournament three years in a row. The team's 79-76 win over Toledo marked a significant victory for the Mid-American Conference. This is also the best performance of this team in Coach John Groce's nine-year tenure, with the team leading the league in defensive efficiency and offensive efficiency, leading the highest NET rating in the league and having the highest KenPom rating in their league. The Zips have won 103 games in the past four seasons. Despite a 29-5 record in the NCAA Tournament, the team is still seeking their first-ever win in the Big Dance.
