Hemispatial neglect, a neurological condition that can occur after a stroke, is a condition where patients become unaware of half their environment due to the brain's tendency to ignore parts of reality. This condition can manifest as patients either ignoring half of their own body or half of the world around them. Varying methods have been shown to improve the condition, but it may not be long-lasting in all patients. Other symptoms may include memory distortion, visual impairment, and difficulty reading, writing, dressing, and navigating. The diagnosis of hemispatial negligence often requires a careful exam by a neurologist.
