Rio Grande wall study warns of flood risk for Laredo neighborhoods

A study by California scientist Dr. Mark Tompkins has warned that a proposed border wall and buoy system along the Rio Grande could worsen flooding, increase debris and cause sections of the barrier to fail. The study was presented to a city advisory committee and could affect around 10 neighborhoods during major flooding events. The researcher was forced to base the study on aerial imagery and publicly available information due to the Department of Homeland Security's lack of official wall design plans.
