Garcia had previously been called up for the G League's Mexico City Capitanes after winning Rookie of the Year in Liga Nacional de Baloncesto. Despite not having pre-draft workouts with NBA teams, Garcia expressed surprise at being called up and joined the Jazz. He also had 12 double-doubles and three games with 20 or more points.
