The Baton Rouge Room, located on the second floor of the main East Baton Rouge Parish Library, houses a catalog of artifacts documenting the history of Louisiana's capital city. The collection, led by Melissa Eastin, head of Special Collections at the library, includes a crown worn by the first king of the Mystic Crew of Apollo, props and costumes from Don's restaurant. The Baton Rouge room opened in 1980 during the Woody Dumas administration and has been kept between 60 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit to prevent decay, mold and humidity damage. The archives are stored for the community by Eastin and are available for public viewing. Those interested in donating materials are encouraged to call first.
