The Vail Dance Festival, opening its doors this weekend, marks the 20th anniversary of artistic director Damian Woetzel's tenure at the Festival. Woetz, a former star dancer for New York City Ballet, has been leading the festival for over 30 years. He succeeded Katherine Kersten in 2007 and is now president of the Juilliard School. The festival's resident artist-in-residence is Alexei Ratmansky, a Russian-born dancer/choreographer who served as artistic director of the Bolshoi Ballet and held premieres at New York's Ballet Center and American Ballet Theatre. The Vail Festival will also feature guest choreographers and musicians.
