Hofstra University freshman and freshman Preston Edmead has been instrumental in the team's remarkable run to reach the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 25 years, helping Hofstra reach the tournament for the second time in a row. He was named the Coastal Athletic Association rookie of the year by The Post and named tournament MVP after scoring the winning 3-pointer in a thrilling overtime conference semifinal against Towson, securing Hofstra's 68-65 win and earning tournament MVP honors. His family, who also have two older sons, Aaren and Malik, grew up playing Division I basketball and are currently playing for Hofstra. Edmeads and his two older brothers learned the game from legendary local trainer Jerry Powell of Lindenhurst, who sees a potential NBA future for him.
