Second woman convicted in Columbia shooting of 2 teenagers

A second woman, Wyketa Burgess, has been convicted in connection with a 2024 shooting of two teenagers outside a grocery store in Columbia, Maryland. The shooting occurred after an armed robbery allegedly took place near a large warehouse. Two teens were found shot near the store and were later rescued from gunshot wounds to their legs. Surveillance video from the store allegedly showed the alleged shooter's mother, Dieneba Traore, being there just before the shooting. Both of the teens survived the attack. Burgess was convicted of two counts of second-degree attempted murder and assault, along with other charges related to the attempted murder of Traore's son. Traore was sentenced to 20 years in prison in July 2025. The gunman responsible for the shooting is not yet identified.
