NASA's Artemis II mission will take four astronauts on a lunar fly-around, a mission that will take them several thousand miles beyond the moon and return within 10 days. The mission will be the first since 1972 and will be led by Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch and Jeremy Hansen. The astronauts are a diverse and international crew, with Koch holding the record for the longest single spaceflight by a woman. The Space Launch System (SLS) is more powerful than the Apollo program’s Saturn V rocket and uses the same fuel as the shuttles. The crew will spend their first 25 hours circling Earth in a high, lopsided orbit before using the separated upper stage as a target for future moonshots. They will also use their smartphones to photograph the lunar far side.
