Maurice Gatson, an 18-year-old accused of murdering Portland Uber driver Joshua Kelvin in 2024, is being held on 10 charges including murder and attempted murder. The charges stem from the June 4, 2024 shooting of Kelvin and a 17-year old in Southeast Portland. Gatson was only 16 at the time of the shooting. Deputy District Attorney Devin Franklin stated that Gatson and another person planned and executed the killing, which was described as an "ambush." The 17-hour-old victim was shot seven to eight times and continues to struggle with lasting effects. The maximum sentence for Gatson is up until age 25, which is rare for juvenile cases.
