Tigers rookie Kevin McGonigle, known as baseball's No. 2 prospect and baseball's highest-ranked player, performed a remarkable 1-2 count against Twins reliever Eric Orze in a ninth inning against Javier Báez, who was on second base. Despite initially grounding out of a first-pitch strike and being hit by a splitter, McGonogle managed to score an RBI double that brought the potential tying run to the plate. His line-drive double was the lowest pitch struck by a Tiger for a base hit since Harold Castro's hit on Aug. 27, 2022, and the seventh-lowest pitch for a Tiger base hit in the Statcast era.
