US eases Russia oil sanctions as Iran war pushes up energy prices

The US has authorised countries to purchase sanctioned Russian oil and petroleum that is currently being transported on vessels. This move is part of a temporary measure to counter the economic impact of the US-Israel war with Iran. The decision comes after attacks on ships and energy infrastructure in the Gulf and the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz waterway. The temporary measure will last until 11 April.
