Israel is focusing on a renewed offensive against Hezbollah, Iran's proxy in Lebanon, following a year-long ceasefire that ended months of open conflict. The Lebanese government had committed to disarming Hezbollah in the November 2024 deal was failing to deliver, Israeli officials said. The Israeli government felt it was time to launch another operation to stop Hezbollah's rockets from coming down on Israeli communities. On March 2, after Israel and the United States launched coordinated strikes on Iran, Hezbollah fired six rockets into northern Israel, giving Israel an opening it was waiting for. Israel has launched multiple waves of strikes across Lebanon, targeting senior Hezbollah operatives, command infrastructure, weapons depots, missile launchers, and military training facilities.
