Billionaire media mogul Tyler Perry visited Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson Airport to offer financial assistance to struggling TSA workers during the government shutdown. However, federal rules prevented him from giving gifts to agents who have been working without pay since Feb. 14. Despite this, Perry spent time with agents and his presence significantly boosted morale among them. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has stated that accepting gifts at screening checkpoints is strictly prohibited for agents. Despite these restrictions, Aaron Barker, president of the American Federation of Government Employees, said donations can be distributed through worker unions.
