Doctors across the country are raising concerns about anti-science attitudes towards routine preventive care for newborns, as a study in the Journal of the American Medical Association has found that parents are increasingly becoming more likely to refuse vitamin K shots for their newborns. The number of parents refusing these shots almost doubled between 2017 and 2024, rising from 2.9% to 5.2% of the total number. The study also found that these parents are more likely than ever to reject basic care such as the hepatitis B vaccine and an eye ointment that prevents serious infections. Social media has been posting questions about these treatments and has also raised doubts about established science.
