James Franklin, the former Penn State football coach, has explained his decision to give up $40M from his contract to Virginia Tech, stating he was focused on himself and his family, not Penn State. His contract with Virginia Tech runs until 2030 and is set to earn him at least $41.75 million over five years. If successful in building on his performance in the 2024 College Football Playoff run, this could significantly increase his buyout.
