The US President Donald Trump's assault on electric vehicle policy has led clean transportation backers to suggest that China, the world's leading EV manufacturer and home to companies like BYD, should be encouraged to come to California. The Trump administration has already revoked California's EV sales mandates last year and is now trying to destroy the remaining remnants of the state’s regulatory authority by suing to block 2012 standards that have already been violated by the auto industry. This move represents an attempt to break up California’S. authority to set stronger-than-federal vehicle emissions standards. However, California's governor, Gavin Newsom, has argued that his $200 million plan for EV rebates won't significantly offset the damage. Despite Chinese auto companies' dominance in Asian, European and South American markets, they have not been able to circumvent America's 100 percent tariff and restriction on Chinese software.
