Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker is running for his third term in the Democratic Party, after Darren Bailey won the Republican primary. This will be his third run for the governor, with Pritker likely to face him in November. This comes amid speculation that he is planning a potential 2028 White House run. If re-elected in 2027, he would begin his new term coinciding with an intensive presidential campaign year. The governor, who has been in office for eight years, has been seen as a national figure, setting himself up as a foil to President Donald Trump and his administration's policies, including a monthslong immigration enforcement operation and the elimination of cash bail. He has also signed legislation including gun laws aimed at protecting victims of domestic violence and raising the state’s minimum wage from $8.25 an hour to $15 an hour in 2025.
