Elliott Payne, Minneapolis City Council president and Ward 1 council member, argues that Minneapolis Community Safety Commissioner Todd Barnette is unfit for the role. He criticizes Barnette for his lack of communication with the City Council or the public and inability to answer basic questions during meetings. Payne argues that Barnette's salary of over $300,000 is too high for the position, which is the highest paid job in the city. He also criticizes his handling of the cases of Davis Moturi, Allison Lussier, and Mariah Samuels during his tenure. The City Council voted not to confirm Barnette as commissioner of community safety, citing past City Councils' abdicating their role of oversight and accountability. Despite these negative comments, no one offered solutions to the challenges facing downtown Minneapolis. The first duty of the American government is to protect American citizens, not illegal aliens.
