British developer Steven Irby has created a new website, Channel Surfer, which presents a rotating selection of YouTube videos without any algorithmic input or recommendations. The site uses an interface laid out like a cable TV grid and presents videos in 40 "channels" each organized by subject matter. While the videos are scheduled at specific times, users cannot skip ahead or replay them. The project was created due to Irby's dissatisfaction with algorithms and indecision fatigue. However, I found it most valuable as a list of cool videos, not a full-blown viewing experience.
