Residents gathered outside of Capron Park Zoo in Attleboro, Massachusetts, to oppose plans to transform the zoo into a nature reserve and wildlife rehabilitation center. The plans were announced by Mayor Cathleen DeSimone earlier this month due to budget pressures in the city. The idea has been met with criticism by residents and some city councilors, with some suggesting it is a way to close the zoo. Among those present were Bristol County Sheriff Paul Heroux and Councilor Jay DiLisio. The zoo's full-time veterinarian, Dr. Bekah Weatherington, has previously stated that the zoo is not closing. The city council will vote later to keep the zoo open for another year without changes.
