South Korea fines Mercedes $7.6 mln over misleading EV battery information

South Korea has fined Mercedes $7.6 million for misleading information about the size of the company's global EV battery market. The fine is the maximum penalty allowed under the law for unfair practices. About 3,000 vehicles containing Farasis battery cells were sold between June 2023 and August 2024, generating total sales of approximately 281 billion pounds. The FTC will refer both Mercedes headquarters in Germany and its Korean unit to prosecutors.
