Leipzig Book Fair sets record attendance in uncertain times

Germany's Leipzig Book Fair has attracted over 300,000 visitors for the first time in its history, surpassing the previous record set last year by 17,000. The event also included a reading festival and the Manga Comic Con. Despite this success, the German book trade has seen a 2.9% decline in sales last year. The German Publishers and Booksellers Association reports that the consumer climate remains weak due to the ongoing wars and crises. Additionally, the minister of state for culture, Wolfram Weeden, cancelled the German Bookshop Award due to intelligence concerns.
