Five Guys has changed its fry cups to paper bags, citing environmental concerns and the growing backlash against plastic packaging. The fast food chain, which first opened its doors in 1986, announced the change on Facebook on March 16. However, loyal fans have complained about the bags' inability to handle the greasy load, with oil quickly soaking through and causing a mess. Critics argue the change comes as businesses face increasing pressure to remove plastic. However Five Guys insists that no changes have been made, offering the same heaping portions customers are used to. The bags are made from biodegradable natural kraft paper and are FDA-approved.
