Before Ryan Coogler became Hollywood director, he was a record-setting Sacramento State wide receiver. His high school and college football career influenced his career. Derek Mason, now the assistant head coach at Saint Mary's College High School, remembers watching Cooglers at the school in 2003. Carter, now head coach of Sacramento State, suggested that Mason should check out an overlooked kid at SaintMary's College. Despite this, Mason did not know that Cooggler would become one of the most famous people Mason had coached. Cooger's film "Sinners" is up for a record 16 Oscars at the Academy Awards.
