Rep. Mike Turner (R-Ohio) has stated that he does not believe a ground invasion will be required to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, which has been closed for over a month due to Iranian provocation. Iran has planted mines in the waterway and threatened to shoot any “enemy” ships attempting to travel through, effectively halting international oil transports from the region. The decision to shut down the strait has led to increased crude oil prices and negatively impacted Asian countries. President Donald Trump has given Iran until Tuesday to open the Straitit to commercial vessels or face the wrath of bombs on energy infrastructure and other sites. Turner supports striking Iran until the single sea passageway from the Gulf to the Indian Ocean is safely restored.
