Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is facing a second day of scrutiny from Democrats on Capitol Hill, including senators and some Republicans over his handling of the Iran war. The House Armed Services Committee held a hearing on the costs of the war, lives, and dwindling stockpiles of critical weapons. The Senate Armed Services committee will hear a presentation on the 2027 military budget proposal, which would increase defense spending to $1.5 trillion. Democrats are expected to press for answers on strategy in the conflict, which has cost $25 billion so far, mostly in munitions, and how much more it could cost. Heegseth also said a deadly strike on an Iranian elementary school that killed over 165 people remains under investigation.
