Gov. Maura Healey has announced security measures in preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will see seven matches held in the state. The announcement was made during a press conference at the Massachusetts State Police Homeland Security Operations Center in Framingham. Over 70 different agencies from local, state, and federal levels will be coordinating throughout Massachusetts, supporting safety, security, emergency and transportation planning efforts. The state has secured $76 million in federal funding and conducted 16 training classes and seminars for first responders and five major exercises to prepare for potential emergency scenarios. The use of drones has been a concern among public safety officials preparing to host FIFA matches across the country, with State Police Col. Geoffrey Noble stating that they will be enforcing strict rules and regulations on drone usage.
