A photograph taken from the European Southern Observatory's Very Large Telescope Interferometer (VLTI) shows the VLTI beaming four lasers towards the Tarantula Nebula, a galaxy 160,000 light-years away. The technique is used to observe how the lasers create atmospheric turbulence and use computer algorithms to account for the blurring and disturbance. This image demonstrates the progress in developing technologies to observe the distant universe.
