Scientists are using medical technology to uncover the secrets of ancient Egyptian mummies, using high-resolution CT scanning to examine mummified remains of ancient Egyptians. The Hungarian National Museum Public Collection Center's Semmelweis Museum of Medical History in Budapest has obtained several ancient mummies since its founding in 1965. The scans aim to provide an accurate picture of the internal structure of the remains, any abnormalities, and preservation techniques used. The technology, or computed tomography, can also reveal hidden cancers and a massacre massacre in pre-Columbian South American mummies. Initial analyses suggest that the scans could help date some of these remains based on their mummification techniques.
